2025 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School (SRGS)

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) offers the opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students to apply to attend summer residential Governor’s schools in Academics and Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). Students who are accepted into one of the programs will live in residence halls in one of the state colleges in VA for four weeks in the June - late July timeframe. To be considered for an academic or VPA Governor’s school, students must complete the steps below.

  1. Complete the interest form linked below for either Academics or VPA. The form is a required part of the application process and is due November 6th. No late entries will be accepted. When completing the form, enter a personal email address and do NOT use an fcpsschools.net email address. VDOE cannot send communications to the fcpsschools.net domain.
  1. Attend the Madison High School interest meeting which will take place on Tuesday, October 22, during Warhawk Time 1, in Warhawk Hall. Attendance at the meeting is optional but strongly encouraged.

 

  1. Complete and submit the JMHS Governor’s School Pre-Screening packet for the specific program for which you wish to apply and submit by 3 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.  You will need to save and print the portions of the application to submit for the pre-screen process. The packet must be submitted in person in the Student Services office.

A completed pre-screening packet includes:

  • Academic Programs (make sure you select the appropriate application for the specific program)
  • Application Information/Page 1 with Applicant and High School Information and Teacher Recommenders’ Information
  • Resume/Page 2
  • Assurances and Acknowledgments/Page 6 or 7 (depending on the program)
  • Visual and Performing Arts Programs
    • Application Information/Page 1 with Applicant and High School Information and Teacher Recommenders’ Information
    • Resume/Page 2
    • Assurances and Acknowledgments/Page 6
  • Details on this pre-application will be shared during the Interest Meeting on Tuesday, October 22. Resources and directions will also be posted in Schoology, in the Student Services: Madison High School course in the ‘2025 Governor’s School’ folder, after the meeting has taken place.
