Graduation

We are very excited to graduate the Madison Class of 2021 at the Jiffy Lube Live event venue. Graduation will be Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., rain or shine.

For venue information including directions and a map, please check the Jiffy Lube Live website. Continue reading here for details regarding the JMHS Class of 2021 Graduation.

Participation

Participation in the commencement exercises is a privilege and as such comes with certain expectations. Among these expectations is the following:

  • Seniors must have met all academic requirements for graduation.
  • Seniors must have settled all accounts with the Finance Office. This includes all school fees, fines, senior dues, and obligations.
  • Seniors must attend Convocation on Wednesday, May 26 at 10:00 in the Madison Main Gym. Seniors must also attend Graduation Rehearsal on Thursday, May 27 at 9:30 in the Madison Main Gym.

Participation is also contingent on adherence to the FCPS Students Rights and Responsibilities.

Senior Dues

This year Senior Dues were reduced to $50. Thank you to everyone who has paid. If you have not paid your Senior Dues yet, please do so through myschoolbucks.com which is the preferred method of payment. Once logged in to myschoolbucks.com, look for the item in the School Store called Senior Dues - Class of 2021. You can also pay by a check made out to James Madison High School (JMHS), which can be dropped off at Door 1 or mailed to the school. Senior dues cover senior class events (such as the drive-through breakfast, bundt cakes, tailgate, picnic, etc.), a senior class t-shirt, and all graduation expenses associated with a live ceremony at Jiffy Lube Live (such as cap and gown, diploma and covers, programs etc.). Please check your payment history at myschoolbucks.com and/or your banking institution to make sure you have paid your senior dues.

If you are unable to pay the $50 dues for any reason, please talk to your counselor about alternative options.

Convocation/Graduation Rehearsal

All graduates must attend our Convocation and graduation rehearsals.

  • Wednesday, May 26 at 10:00 in Madison’s Main Gym: Convocation and our first graduation rehearsal. Students should arrive at 9:30 to Door 11. Convocation will also function as a graduation rehearsal that should last about an hour. Seniors will be seated in rows set up to mimic Jiffy Lube Live seating. Parents of senior award winners will receive an invitation to attend. After Convocation, students will receive their cap and gown.
  • Thursday, May 27 at 9:30 starting in the Main Gym: Second graduation rehearsal followed by the distribution of graduation tickets. After the rehearsal, there is a senior picnic and other festivities that are optional for seniors to attend on the stadium grounds. Senior t-shirts will be distributed. All events should wrap up around noon.

Tickets

FCPS is still working with Jiffy Lube Live to determine the number of tickets and ticketing procedures. We are currently anticipating 4 tickets per graduate.  All guests must have a ticket to enter Jiffy Lube Live. On-site security will not permit guests without tickets to enter the venue. Tickets will be distributed to graduates at the rehearsal on Thursday, May 27.

At this time, we do not anticipate the ability to distribute extra tickets.

Friends and family who are not able to attend will still be able to watch the ceremony, as we will be live streaming this year! The live streaming will be available through a specific link that will be activated and shared with the graduates and their families in the week prior to the event.

Transportation for Graduates

Graduates must be at the Jiffy Lube Live staging area at no later than 1:00 p.m. but may arrive beginning at 12:30 p.m. Graduates should provide their own transportation, but families may also drop off students. Graduates who drive themselves will park in LOT B. Reference the map below for graduate parking and drop-off locations. Please allow plenty of time for the trip given the construction on I-66. Graduates who cannot provide their own transportation should contact their counselor as soon as possible.

Students will not be able to carry personal items into the venue. All items, including purses, must be left in vehicles, with friends or family, or at home.

Guest Parking

There is plenty of parking at Jiffy Lube Live. Guests will be directed to a parking space in either Lot A or Lot C upon entering the venue. The walk from the parking lots to the venue is significant; please plan on at least 15 minutes for this. Guest parking will be available starting at 12:30 p.m., but the venue will not open until 1:00 p.m. Limited shuttle service by golf cart will be available for guests with physical disabilities.

Graduation Ceremony

Everyone’s cooperation is needed to ensure a dignified ceremony. Each graduate deserves the same level of recognition and respect; therefore, caps and gowns must be free of messages, and students and their guests should not bring noisemakers, beach balls, balloons, or other objects that might diminish this very important event. If you choose to bring a cell phone, please turn it off during the ceremony. Jiffy Lube Live provides security for their events and will immediately escort any violators from the ceremony.

All participants must follow Virginia and Prince William County COVID guidelines. Each ticket holder will have to follow the seating arrangements mandated by the Jiffy Lube Live venue. Please follow all mask and spacing guidelines and work patiently with staff on hand to make the ceremony run as smoothly as possible.

You will not be allowed to bring in any bags other than a clear plastic bag smaller than 12” by 12”. This means no backpacks, camera bags, or even purses (clutches are allowed but will be searched).

Dress Code

In keeping with the dignity of the ceremony, our dress code for the Graduation Ceremony is:

Male Graduates

  • Dress shirt with tie
  • Khaki or dark slacks (no shorts)
  • Dress shoes (no boots or sandals)
  • No sneakers, flip-flops, or T-Shirts

Female Graduates

  • Dress or blouse with slacks under gown
  • Dress shoes
  • No sneakers, flip-flops, or T-shirts

The FCPS dress code is still enforced as this is a school event.

Caps and Gowns will be distributed at the graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, May 26. Please be aware that all financial obligations including parking fines, outstanding Senior Class Dues, etc. must be cleared in order for students to receive their cap and gown and Graduation tickets. Please check with Brittany Allen (blallen@fcps.edu) at the front desk and submit a check or items to the Main Office as soon as possible.
